Strategic Planning

Strategic Planning

Through our Strategic Planning services, Healthtech can assist your organization in articulating and crystallizing your vision for information technology. Using a proprietary model developed by Healthtech as a base, the strategic plan is designed to address your key operational and strategic objectives, to identify opportunities to use enabling technologies effectively, and identify technology infrastructure and policy requirements. Healthtech has developed strategic plans for all types of healthcare organizations, from small community centres to large multi-facility and regional systems and jurisdictions.

Tactical Planning

In order to help organizations implement their strategic vision, our Tactical Planning becomes an action oriented roadmap to follow in achieving the information systems vision. Healthtech prides itself on assisting in the development of realistic plans that address the priorities, timelines, and resources required to implement our clients’ strategic initiatives. Our in-depth knowledge of information systems applications and clinical workflow is a critical element in producing a realistic, achievable plan. Our tactical plans outline how you can optimize the return on your current technology investment, while continuing to move forward with new technologies and applications.

Readiness Assessment

Healthtech Consultants can assist you in reviewing your organization in planning for a new system(s) implementation. The readiness assessment includes a review of the corporate direction for the implementation as well as the current environment and planned approaches for the initiative. Industry trends and lessons learned from other organizations will be explored to identify possible strategies going forward.

EHR/CPOE Planning

CPOE can be implemented in a variety of organizational readiness states. Recognizing the significant impact and complexity of these changes within an organization, Healthtech can assist the organization in planning and reviewing the requirements for the transition to CPOE.

During the review, Healthtech will conduct an objective assessment of the medication management system/processes as it relates to CPOE. Healthtech will examine current processes (manual and electronic) and determine unique program/service documentation requirements. Healthtech will provide objective conclusions regarding the readiness of the manual documentation system for an electronic environment, workflow analysis and restructuring of clinical processes and/or change strategies to facilitate the conversion from manual order entry to electronic order entry (CPOE).

Healthtech can provide a CPOE workshop following the delivery of the tactical plan to assist the organization with planning and implementation of order sets, alerts and other clinical decision support features.

Healthtech would recommend that the organization start with a review of the current medication management and order entry processes.

Following the high level review of the current physician documentation and order management processes, Healthtech Consultants work with the organization to develop a detailed Tactical Plan for the implementation of electronic physician documentation and CPOE. The Tactical Plan will address concepts such as:

  • Risk/Benefit Analysis
  • Communication Plan
  • Organisational Preparation Strategy
  • Metrics for Measuring Success
  • Change Management Strategy
  • Timelines
  • Support/Resource Requirements
  • Estimated Budget/Costs

Shared Services

As health service providers increasingly move towards shared information – shared between applications, shared between organizations, and even shared across jurisdictions – the definition and analysis of integration requirements and determination of the optimal path forward have become increasingly important. Healthtech has the experience and skills to support everything from straight-forward point-to-point HL7 or XML interfaces, to developing regional and jurisdiction strategies around a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Our experience includes integration of clinical and back-office systems, including regional HIS and regional supply chain architectures, support for regional diagnostic imaging repositories (DI-r), and many other multi-facility, multi-interface projects.
